AMU Researchers Participated in Capacity Building Programme

Bab-E-Syed_AMUALIGARH,  January 7: Dr. Mohd. Awais and Dr. Naheen Haider Zaidi, Post Doctoral Fellows, Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University participated in “Capacity Building Programme on Mainstream Climate Change Adaptation in Development”, sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India and conducted by Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi.

The capacity building programme offers multidisciplinary approach to the subject. It aims at acquainting the participants with the different perspectives of climate change which also helps in focusing on the problem area to mainstream climate change. During the program, the main themes that were discussed included: the causes of global climate change and the likely impacts on their region, and community, how climate change adaptation and mitigation are linked to disaster risk reduction, identify ways in which they can reduce their household and community vulnerability to climate change, identify and apply tools to develop a community-climate change adaptation plan and outline the key elements of a plan for participatory monitoring and evaluation of community responses to climate change. The five days programme was attended by 30 participants from various Government departments, universities, institutions and NGOs across the country.

Both the researchers are working with Dr. Nizamuddin Khan and Prof. Abdul Munir of the Department of Geography respectively.
