ALIGARH, February 10: The Raleigh Literary Society, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University organized its annual function today at the Faculty of Arts Lounge. AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah graced the function as Chief Guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali was the Guest of Honour. Mrs. Sabiha Simi Shah was also present on this occasion.
Welcoming the guests, Professor Asif Shuja, Chairperson of the Department said that the Raleigh Literary Society is a literary body of students, which provides a training ground for them.
Ms. Shehnoor Shan, President of the Society spoke about its role and function. Postgraduate students Riad Azam, Sumaiya Sanaullah Khan, Anum Fatima and Areeba Zainab staged “No Exit” by Sartre. The ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’ by Lord Alfred Tennyson was recited by Ayush Gaur, Abdul Ahad, Amir Khan, Zillur Rehman and Anisur Rehman. A musical act based on ‘The History of Why the Chicken Crossed the Road’ was presented by research scholars Mariyam llyas Siddiqui and Sumaiyya Naz along with Wajih Haider.
Md. Imtiaz Alam, Vice President and Irshad Parray, Joint Secretary presented Visitor’s Book to dignitaries. Prof. S. N. Zeba, Coordinator and Teachers Incharge Dr. Raihan Raza and Dr. Seemin Hasan directed the plays and the supervised the event.
The Vice Chancellor released the fresh issue of The Aligarh Magazine.
