ALIGARH, March 7- The Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University organized a symposium on “Modern Trends in Library and Information Services” in the Conference Hall of Faculty of Social Sciences. Prof. Gabriel Gomez from Chicago State University, Chicago, USA delivered the keynote address as chief guest.
Prof. Gomez conversed about the big data and Information Literacy. He talked about the variety of information literacy skill that needs to be incorporated in the information users and stressed upon the lifelong learning phenomena in the present information society. There is a huge ocean of data available at the finger tips of users and proficiency in identifying and selecting the relevant content out of the whole sum, is imperative for one and all.
Dr. Naushad Ali PM, coordinator of the symposium, welcomed the guests. In his welcome speech, he laid emphasis on the existence and validity of the library science profession in the contemporary milieu and the challenges facing the information professionals with regard to the ICT enabled techniques and tools.
The symposium was presided over by Prof. Shabahat Husain, Dean, faculty of Social Sciences and Chairman, Department of Library and Information Science. In his presidential remarks, he portrayed the comparative analysis of the historical account of the library science profession and the current scenario of the subject and visualized a comprehensive outlook of the profession and the changes that occurred vis-à-vis the response and reactions from the library and information science professionals.
Mr. S. Mustafa Zaidi proposed a vote of thanks. The program comprised two technical sessions in which about 15 research papers were presented.
