Winter School on Human Genetics at Assam University

batori.inSILCHAR, Aug 17- A North-East Winter School on ‘Human Genetics: Techniques & Statistical Analyses’ is going to held at Assam University, Silchar from November 10-14, 2014. This Winter School, funded by Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and supported by Assam University, is being organized in recognition of the need to expand research in North-east India on human disease to identify important risk factors and interactions among them. The training course aims to help the participants acquire skills to carry out experiments in Molecular Biology, perform statistical analyses and draw inferences on genomic risks and associations.


The topics covered in this course are: Basic Molecular Biology; Basic Statistics and Population Genetics; Techniques in Molecular Biology: DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, Real Time-PCR, expression study; Genetic Association studies: Statistical methods and hands-on analyses using SPSS; and Epigenetics. Instructors for the course shall be Prof. Bidyut Roy, Prof. Saurabh Ghosh, Dr. Indranil Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Raghunath Chatterjee, Ms. Anindita Ray (ISI Kolkata) and Prof. Sankar Ghosh (Assam University).

One needs to be a Ph.D candidate or a junior faculty member working in a research institute/university in North-east India in the area of Human Genetics or Epidemiology to apply for the said winter school.
