Assam University celebrates Engineer’s Day

Engineers Day Assam University SILCHAR, Sep 16- Engineer’s Day is observed in several countries on various dates of the year. So as in India, Engineer’s day is celebrated every year on September 15 to celebrate the birthday of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (15 September 1860 – 14 April 1962). Popularly known as Sir MV Visvesvaraya, was a notable Indian engineer, scholar, statesman and the Diwan of Mysore during 1912 to 1918. He was a recipient of the Indian Republic’s highest honour, Bharat Ratna in 1955. He was also knighted as a Knight Commander of the Indian Empire (KCIE) by King George V for his contributions to the public good. He is held in high regard as an eminent engineer of India.

Carrying on the tradition, this year Triguna Sen School of Technology, Assam University organised a two-day carnival celebrating the fun of engineering with the theme- “Making Indian Engineering World-Class” . Held on 15th and 16th September, the various themed competitions held were Creative Art, Logo Designing, T-Shirt Designing, Movie-making, Caption Writing, Mobile Snap – the mobile photography competition themed on engineering life at AUS, Quizicon – the Quiz competition, Coding with C, C++ and Java and many more. Not only this, the Gaming Sphere module constitutes Counter Strike 1.6, Need For Speed Most Wanted and FIFA 2012 gaming competitions. The thrilled pack carnival also featured various cultural events. The final day Carnival Evening had Prof. Somnath Dasgupta, Hon’bl Vice Chancellor of Assam University as the Chief Guest.
