AMU faculty gets prestigious Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians

Bab-E-Syed_AMUALIGARH, Aug 26- Dr Mohammad Shameem, Associate Professor, Department of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University has been selected for the prestigious Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), Edinburg. He is the only and youngest Chest physician from India to receive this honor.

The fellowship is the highest category of membership within the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburg (RCPE). It recognizes clinical achievement, confers international peer recognition and presents enhanced professional opportunities to contribute to standard-setting and their policy influencing activities. The Fellowship would enable Dr Shameem to provide professional support under UK educational system. He would be invited as an external examiner to conduct exam MRCP (UK).

Dr Shameem will receive this honor at the annual convocation on 26th June 2015 at Edinburg, Scotland. All physicians selected for this Fellowship are invited to sign the “College Roll”, which is in the form of vellum sheets. The roll has been signed by all selected fellows since its inception in 1806. The tradition covered famous RCPE Fellows such as James Young Simpson, discoverer of Chloroform, Sir Stanley Davidson, author of Davidson’s ‘Principles and Practice of Medicine’, Sir John Crofton, a pioneer of TB treatment and Queen Elizabeth II.
