GUWAHATI- In the cycling 40 Km Team Time Trail event (WE), team India won Gold. Team India covered the required distance in 59.23 minutes while the silver medal winning Lankan team covered the same in 1.02.07 hour. Pakistan team got the Bronze medal.
The Indian team was represented by Bidyaluxmi Tourangbam, Rutuja Satpute, Manisha G and Chaoba Devi Clangbam.
Pakistan team members were Sahiba Bibi, Rashida Munir, Razia Shabbir and Fiza Riaz while Sri Lankan team represented by Udeshani Niranjani Kumarasinghe, Lasanthi Krishna Gunathilaka Horathal Pedige, Sriyalatha Wickramasinghe Udagedera Durayalage and Sudarika Priyadarshani Peththaperuma Arachchige.
Meanwhile Union Sports Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, who is the chairman of the organising committee SAG 2016, today expressed satisfaction over the successful hosting of the first four days of the multi-discipline 12th South Asian Games in Guwahati and Shillong and hoped the remaining eight days would also pass off successfully.
“Today is the fourth day. It has been a great success so far, thanks to the people of Guwahati and Shillong as well as the media involved. I hope the remaining eight days will be more successful,” Shri Sonowal said interacting with the media at Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatics Complex in Guwahati today, where he watched some of the finals of the swimming competition of the SAG. He also conferred away medals to the winners.
The much awaited athletic thrills will start tomorrow at Indira Gandhi Athletic(IGA) Stadium, Sarusajai Sports Complex here.
Top Indian athletes Annu Rani, M.R. Poovamma and Arokia Rajiv will be the star in tomorrow’s events. Annu Rani is a top Javelin Thrower. She won the Gold medal in 55th National Open Athletics Championship in 2015. While Rajiv won a gold at an international meet by winning the event in the second leg of the Asian Grand Prix in June last year. Arjuna Awardee Poovamma won a bronze in the individual women’s 400 m race and gold in the 4 x 400 m relay race in the Incheon Asian Games last year.
Men and Women from eight countries will show their talents at IGA track field. The field is ready for spectacular events which include Long Jump and High Jump, 400 meter, 800 meter 5000 meter and the most popular and attractive 100 meter race. Hammer Throw and Shot Put are other attractions.
