ALIGARH December 28: Prof. S. M. Javaid Zaidi, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia said that “Fuel cell technology, a clean and green energy technology holds a great future for India and has strong potential for commercialization in automotive sector such as cars, three wheelers, scooters and buses”. He was delivering a keynote lecture on the Design of Fuel Cell as Clean Energy Systems at the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University.

Prof. Zaidi said that fuel cell technology is an ideal solution for India’s power sector, especially in remote and rural areas where electricity supply is currently unavailable and difficult because of infrastructure problems. Fuel cell is an alternate energy source, which does not depend on conventional fossil fuels and runs on hydrogen and liquid methanol as well as on other alcohols.

Fuel cell systems are modular in nature as it has zero emission of toxics and carcinogens and systems of any size can be made depending on the power requirements. Fuel cell technology is a green energy and power source for the new millennium.

Prof. Javaid Zaidi is an alumnus of AMU and presently working in the University of Queensland, Australia. He has extensively published and is widely recognised worldwide for Clean Energy and Fuel Cells research. He has published more than 200 articles in international journals, international conference/ symposia/ workshops as well as a book on Fuel Cell membranes, and holds many patents. He is a recipient of many national and international awards including Almarai Prize for Scientific innovation in research.
