National Symposium cum Bioinformatics Workshop organized at AMU

Guest of the Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, AMU releasing the souviner at the National SymposiumALIGARH, January 16: The Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit (IBU), Aligarh Muslim University organized a three-day National Symposium cum Bioinformatics Workshop on ‘New Facet of Biotechnology: From Genes to Proteins’.

In his presidential remarks, Prof M Shamim Jairajpuri, INSA Scientist, said that in the last sixty years tremendous developments have taken place in the field of biological science. He said that this science is not only useful for human beings but also for bio-products. He further added that Biotechnology is one of the emerging fields of science and it is also useful for mankind and other life forms on Earth. He also highlighted the science programmes carried during the last five decades and appreciated the efforts made by the Biotechnology Unit, AMU.

Dr Asadullah Khan, Coordinator, IBU and Convener of the Symposium welcomed the guests and appreciated the efforts of former coordinator, Prof M Saleemuddin. He also mentioned the programme and highlighted the growth of the Department in the last few years. He informed that the department had received a grant of over Rs five crores in the last few years.

Prof TP Singh, a distinguished Biotechnology Researcher and Professor, AIIMS, New Delhi delivered the keynote address and talked on protein structure. He said that the current year is the year of crystallography and Protein Structure. He said that the Protein Chemistry is the most fundamental science. He also highlighted the Anti-bacterial drug history.

Dr Rizwan Hasan Khan proposed the vote of thanks and Dr Shahper Nazeer Khan conducted the program.
