“They will get 50% subsidy,” he said, adding that this would benefit some 28 of the 34 lakh households in Delhi.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister met Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Shashi Kant Sharma and discussed ways to go about auditing the finances of the three private power distribution companies that supply power across the national capital.

The move on power discoms comes a day after the Kejriwal-led government fulfilled its first promise of supplying 666/667 litres of water everyday to each Delhi household free of charge provided they had a water meter.

Kejriwal told reporters earlier that the “Delhi government is of the view that audit of these companies can be done. But under the provisions of law, the three companies were being given the opportunity of being heard on the government audit of their finances.”

“They are being given time till tomorrow (Wednesday) morning by which they will have to give their representations. The cabinet will meet in the evening,” he told reporters before leaving for his meeting with the CAG.

The ailing chief minister, who has been advised complete bed rest by doctors, also tweeted, “Going to meet the CAG, to discuss possibility of an audit of the three power companies.”

“I believe we have 48 hours in hand so doing whatever we can to help people in this period,” the chief minister’s tweet said.
